The Control Menu serves as a hub, for all things related to Camera Control.
When you enter it for the first time, the Control feature will still be turned off. To get started, press the text saying OFF above the Device Type selector in the top left. This should present you with the two options, “Camera” and “Calibration”. For now, we’ll stick to Camera Control.
Once Camera is selected as the device type, you’ll see the options USB or LanC above the Connection type selector. USB should be used when you want to control a camera from either Canon, Panasonic, or Sony, while LanC should be selected if you would like to control a Z CAM.
After you’ve decided on which connection type you intend to use, all you have to do is connect the right cable to your camera. For USB-C, you can use the braided cable included with the Shinobi II, or really any other USB-C cable that allows data transfer at a minimum of USB 2.0 speeds. For LanC (Z CAM), use our USB-C to Serial Cable (ATOMCAB018) which is sold separately.
After connecting your Shinobi II to your camera, you should see the status of the “Select Camera” section update automatically. Verify that your camera’s Manufacturer and Model is displayed correctly, and start using the camera control feature.
On the Device Mode “Calibration”: Only use this mode if you intend to calibrate your Shinobi II via an X-Rite or Calibrite calibration probe. If you own one of these, you can plug them directly into the Shinobi II’s USB-C port (you’ll likely need a USB-A to USB-C adapter). Once plugged in, you can head to the Info tab and start the “on-device” calibration process.
Note: If you want to calibrate your Shinobi II’s display via the Atomos Calibrator app on a PC/Mac, Control needs to be set to OFF.
