If resolution and frame rate of a Z CAM don't match on an Atomos Recorder...

...then your camera's HDMI Format setting is probably set to Auto!

The signal output handling on the Z CAM E2 camera platform works differently depending on whether you choose to output either a RAW or Video signal via HDMI. 

If you enable HDMI RAW in the Record menu, the internal recording on the Z CAM gets disabled. Therefore, changing the resolution and frame rate in the Record menu applies directly to the signal that the camera outputs via HDMI to our compatible recorders.

Outputting a regular Video signal via HDMI for external ProRes or DNx recording is less straightforward, though, as you need to adjust your camera's settings in two separate menus. 

First, set your Project FPS in the Z CAM's Record menu, and after that, navigate to the Connection menu. In there, select HDMI, navigate to the Format menu, and choose your desired output resolution and frame rate. By default, the Z CAM's output format is set to Auto. In the Auto state, the camera handshakes the external HDMI device to attain the maximum resolution and frame rate that it can accept.

So even if you set your camera to record 4Kp23.98 in the Record menu, it will output a 4Kp59.94 signal to our recorders if the HDMI Format is set to Auto.

However, having the separated internal recording and output option can be very helpful in the field. For example, If you want to record H.264 proxies in-camera, just set it to 1080p24 in the Record menu and choose 4Kp24 as the HDMI Format for external ProRes recording. You can also record 24fps in-camera while outputting a higher frame rate signal via HDMI. The externally recorded file can then get slowed down in post, which opens up many possibilities in terms of flexibility.
